Fixed braces

Traditional fixed braces consist of brackets fitted to the outside of each tooth. Each bracket has a slot into which an archwire is inserted and attached. In conjunction with the brackets, the archwire exerts constant light pressure that pushes the teeth from all directions into the correct position. The archwire is adjusted every four to six weeks. Using fixed braces is the most effective method for correcting misaligned teeth and requires limited collaboration from the patient. Unfortunately, braces make oral hygiene more complicated, which increases the risk of cavities in patients who do not clean their teeth properly. Rigorous adherence to oral hygiene is therefore essential.
